Senator WONG (South Australia—Minister for Foreign Affairs and Leader of the Government in the Senate) (14:09): Yesterday, the Prime Minister announced, as I said, the initial $10 million contribution in humanitarian aid. Today, I can provide some update to senators about how these resources are being used and are intended to be used. UNICEF have commenced assessment of water infrastructure and health infrastructure damage. They have dispatched more than 1,000 prepositioned water sanitation and hygiene kits and are prepositioning another 10,000 kits. UNICEF is also leading the education response for displaced families seeking shelter in schools. Local Red Cross and Red Crescent teams have been assisting with search and rescue, transportation to hospitals and first aid, and distribution of essential non-food items. We will continue to work with partners to do all that is possible to assist those affected by this tragedy.
