Senator GALLAGHER (Australian Capital Territory—Minister for the Public Service, Minister for Finance, Minister for Women, Manager of Government Business in the Senate and Vice-President of the Executive Council) (14:18): It's not right to say that, Senator McDonald. Senator McKenzie interjecting— Senator GALLAGHER: Well, it's not right! The way that she ended that question is not correct. Inflation is moderating. It is moderating in line with the forecasts. In fact, it was spot on in terms of the RBA forecast, who continue to say that they expect inflation to moderate. Those opposite might like to manufacture this crisis for their own political purposes. They were the only ones last week out there trying, hoping desperately, for an interest rate increase, hoping desperately for one. Senator McGrath interjecting— The PRESIDENT: Order! Minister, please resume your seat. Senator McGrath, I have called you out personally a number of times. Minister, please continue. Senator GALLAGHER: But the reality is inflation continues to moderate. Our policies are supporting that. We are providing cost-of-living relief that puts downward pressure on inflation but helps family budgets at the same time. Our policies are working. They will continue to work, and we will continue to support Australians.
