Senator CORMANN (Western Australia—Minister for Finance, Vice-President of the Executive Council and Leader of the Government in the Senate) (14:42): I completely reject the premise of that question. The government doesn't want to do anything of the sort. The government supports choice, though, and the government supports measures which help ensure that, in particular, small superannuation balances aren't inappropriately eroded by fees going into the pockets of insurance providers in relation to insurance that might not be appropriate to their needs. This is obviously a matter that has been discussed for some time in this chamber, and this chamber has, indeed, already passed some important reform in this space designed to protect the retirement savings of working families around Australia. The government stands by the measures that it's put forward.
