Senator CHRIS EVANS (Western Australia—Minister for Tertiary Education, Skills, Science and Research and Leader of the Government in the Senate) (14:23): I am not sure what Prime Minister Cameron in Great Britain said to his cabinet; I suspect that neither is the senator. Can I just reiterate: this is an operational decision taken as a result of heightened risk. It is a decision taken by the military leadership—the ISAF leadership in the field. The minister will no doubt be making public comments about this and I will seek to make sure the Senate is kept abreast of those. The minister has at all times sought to keep the parliament up-to-date with developments in Afghanistan. I am not sure that there is anything in the events of the last few days that would cause us to review our fundamental commitment to Afghanistan or our plans for transitioning to local Afghan command of operations in Afghanistan.
