Senator WONG (South Australia—Minister for Foreign Affairs and Leader of the Government in the Senate) (14:49): There is no double standard. I have been clear that I will not speculate on sanctions whenever you have asked me—and you have asked me a lot, not just in relation to this country but in relation to others. We don't speculate on sanctions. There's a separate issue about respect for the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court. I note that this is not something on which the opposition agree. I have said—and I appreciate that there are people who may not agree with this—you don't pick and choose on international law. You can't argue that the law of the sea in the South China Sea should be respected but at the same time oppose the application of international law through the tribunals, as difficult as it may be, as difficult and as confronting as it may be. That will remain the principled position that the Albanese Labor government takes.
