Senator Birmingham asked the Minister representing the Minister for Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities, upon notice, on 12 September 2011: In regard to the Murray-Darling Basin: (1) What regulation exists around the construction of levee banks. (2) What analysis has the department or the Murray-Darling Basin Authority done into the impacts of levee banks on downstream flows and floods. (3) Has any advice been sought or received on the impact of levee banks since the floods in 2010 and 2011; if so, can details be provided.
