Mr ZIMMERMAN (North Sydney) (13:58): Each year I organise the North Sydney Community Awards to say thank you to the many volunteers and community organisations that work to make the North Sydney electorate a better, more caring, brighter and safer place to live, raise children and grow old. There are so many people working in our area to help others in need or in support of the community. They never expect an accolade or for their work to be recognised. From those supporting our elderly to bush care groups to volunteers running sporting clubs, literally thousands of people are making a difference in our wonderful part of Sydney. So this is a great opportunity for residents to nominate these unsung heroes, and nominations are now open for the 2019 awards. This year's awards are being held on the evening of 21 November at Norths in Cammeray. There are a variety of categories for the awards so we can recognise all of those who contribute. These include the North Sydney Community Award, which is open to any individual who lives in the local area or works for a North Sydney based community organisation. We also have categories for young people, senior citizens, and organisations making outstanding contributions. This year, for the first time, we will also have presentations from the winners of my North Sydney Speech Writing Competition, who were announced earlier this year. The North Sydney awards are a wonderful celebration of our community, which is so strong, and I look forward to acknowledging those who are nominated for awards during this ceremony. The SPEAKER: In accordance with standing order 43, the time for members’ statements has concluded.
