Mr ABBOTT (Warringah—Leader of the Opposition) (14:01): I rise to join the Prime Minister in welcoming Australia's 12th Nobel prize and the sixth for the Australian National University, and in congratulating Professor Brian Schmidt. In a stellar career the Nobel prize is the ultimate accolade. Although Professor Schmidt was born in the United States he has built his career here in Australia. Remarkably he says that he might not have been able to succeed in the way he has had he been anywhere else in the world. This is obviously a great moment for our country. It is a great moment for his university and for Australian science. It is proof, if any were needed, that the brain drain is not all the wrong way.
