Senator HANSON (Queensland—Leader of Pauline Hanson's One Nation) (17:15): I seek leave to make a short statement. The PRESIDENT: Leave is granted for one minute. Senator HANSON: Since the entry of more than 50,000 illegal maritime arrivals during the chaotic years of the Rudd-Gillard government— Honourable senators interjecting— Senator HANSON: Listen to it. The PRESIDENT: Order! Senator HANSON: 6,600 illegal economic migrants have been returned to their home countries. The individuals in question in this motion have been offered the same opportunity but instead have chosen to challenge the Australian people and our governments at a cost of roughly $10 million. The federal government has found on a number of occasions that the individuals are not refugees. I support the Minister for Home Affairs in his efforts to have these illegal maritime arrivals sent back to the safety of their Sri Lankan homeland. One Nation do not support humanitarian queue jumpers but do support those genuine refugees who come to Australia to adopt our way of life, who work and who don't try to change us as a nation. We will not support this motion.
