Senator DUNIAM: The Morrison government are committed to stamping out violence, abuse, neglect or exploitation of people with disability and this is why we established a joint royal commission into violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation of people with disability. The Morrison government take this issue very seriously. We're working closely with people with disability, peak bodies and other stakeholders to bring about an enduring change in community attitudes. The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission is the independent national regulator for services provided to participants in the NDIS. It undertakes a broad range of regulatory and compliance activities. The government is committed to taking action to respond to any systemic failures or shortcomings of the quality and safeguards framework identified by the multiple independent investigations and inquiries into Ms Smith's death, including recommendations made by the royal commission.
