Senator DUNIAM (Tasmania—Assistant Minister for Forestry and Fisheries and Assistant Minister for Regional Tourism) (16:40): I seek leave to make a short statement. The PRESIDENT: Leave is granted for one minute. Senator DUNIAM: Over this triennium, the ABC will receive $3.2 billion, which is over $1 billion a year. This investment from taxpayers gives the ABC more financial security than any other media organisation across the country. The government's investment in the ABC is important in underpinning media diversity and is a significant contribution to civic journalism across the country. As stated before, GetUp engaged a consulting firm to prepare a report that incorrectly concluded that the ABC had lost $783 million in funding since 2014. ABC funding has not decreased, and the budget papers indicate that funding in 2019-20 is, in fact, higher than it was in 2013-14 and will be higher again in the year 2021-22. The PRESIDENT: The question is that motion No. 624 be agreed to.
