Senator ABETZ (Tasmania—Leader of the Government in the Senate, Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Public Service and Minister for Employment) (14:48): As the Australian people well know, the former Prime Minister is a staunch monarchist. I think the Australian people know that the new Prime Minister is a staunch republican. We in the Liberal Party allow sufficient latitude to house both views. On the former question from the honourable senator, I also indicate that we will not be denying conscience votes to our colleagues after 2016 or 2019, when the Labor Party is going to turn off the tap on conscience votes. It is the Labor Party that will be denying their colleagues a free vote. (Time expired)
