MOTIONS › Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area
Senator MILNE (Tasmania—Leader of the Australian Greens) (15:54): I move: That the Senate— (a) applauds the World Heritage Committee's decision in Doha on 23 June 2014 to uphold the current boundaries of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area; (b) notes the damage to Australia's international reputation and Tasmanian tourism as a result of the Abbott Government's attempt to reduce the World Heritage Area by 74 000 ha so it can be logged; and (c) calls on the Abbott Government to abide by the requirements of the World Heritage Convention to fund the rehabilitation of degraded areas and a cultural assessment of the area. The PRESIDENT: The question is that the motion moved by Senator Milne be agreed to.
