Senator McLUCAS (Queensland—Parliamentary Secretary for Disabilities and Carers and Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister) (15:54): Mr Deputy President, I seek leave to make a short statement. The DEPUTY PRESIDENT: Leave is granted for one minute. Senator McLUCAS: Thank you, Mr Deputy President. I too acknowledge my friends and the people from Cape York who are joining us here in the chamber today. I also indicate to the chamber that it would be very terrific if people could join with us this evening to have a conversation about what we need to do to work collaboratively together to ensure that we do get a World Heritage outcome for Cape York Peninsula. In saying that, I do say that this is not the way—to use notices of motion—to resolve complex and difficult issues. I distance myself from the actions of the Greens today to use a simple mechanism in the Senate to make a political point when in fact what we are trying to do is very complex.
