Senator WATERS (Queensland) (16:08): I move: That the Senate— (a) notes: (i) the intention of the Minister for Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities (Mr Burke) to transfer responsibility for protecting our nationally threatened species and wilderness places to state governments by March 2013, and (ii) that the Western Australian Premier (Mr Barnett) is ready to sacrifice James Price Point for a gas hub; and (b) calls on the Government to retain responsibility for all major decisions on environmentally damaging projects that affect our nationally threatened species and wilderness places.
