Senator HANSON-YOUNG (South Australia) (16:30): I seek leave to amend general business notice of motion No. 239 standing in my name for today relating to the government's asylum seeker arrangement with Malaysia. Leave granted. Senator HANSON-YOUNG: I have circulated the amendment. It is a very small one. It makes the motion simpler. I move the amended motion as follows: That the Senate— (a) condemns the Gillard Government's deal with Malaysia that would see 800 asylum seekers intercepted in Australian waters and sent to Malaysia; and (b) calls on the Government immediately to abandon this proposal.
