Ms LEY (Farrer—Leader of the Opposition) (14:06): On behalf of the coalition, I similarly rise to mark the passing of the Hon. Graham Richardson AO. Richo was a Labor stalwart and he represented so much of the Labor Party tradition. He was a tough political operator who was committed to advancing the Labor cause. His approach to politics is exemplified by his autobiographical book, Whatever It Takes. Richo never pulled his punches and he fought for the Labor cause. He was a larger-than-life character who was a constant presence in Australian politics for almost half a century. His service to the Australian Labor Party was reflected in his role as general secretary of the New South Wales Australian Labor Party. He also served the Australian people as a senator for over a decade and made important contributions as the Minister for the Environment, Sport and Territories, the Minister for Health and the Minister for Transport and Communications. Following his time in the other place he continued to play a role in politics and in public debate. I know Kieran Gilbert and the team from Sky News especially will feel the loss of his presence as a commentator and as a panellist. On behalf of the coalition, I extend my condolences to Amanda, to D'Arcy, to Graham's family, to his former colleagues and to the Australian Labor Party for their loss. The SPEAKER: As a mark of respect to the memory of the Hon. Graham Frederick Richardson, I ask all present to rise in their places. Honourable members having stood in their places— The SPEAKER: I thank the House. Debate adjourned.
