Dr MULINO (Fraser—Assistant Treasurer and Minister for Financial Services) (14:37): I'm asked about the government's tax policies. What I can say is that the government went to the last election with a very clear set of tax policies. Those tax policies included reducing taxes on every single taxpayer. What I might say is that that reflects successive years in which we have reduced taxes on every single taxpayer. I might say, just by way of contrast—I know this question wasn't about the opposition, but I think it's worth adding in one sentence—there is a direct contrast to those opposite, who went to the last election with an explicit policy of coming into this place after the election and raising taxes on every single taxpayer. Mr Tehan: I have a point of order on relevance. This is a really important question, especially to rural and regional Australia, on the fuel tax credits scheme, and we'd like an answer. The SPEAKER: I thank the member for Wannon. The Assistant Treasurer was not asked about alternative policies. He was not asked about any other things than the specific topic he was asked about. He'll need to make his answer directly relevant, otherwise I'll sit him down. Dr MULINO: What I will say is that those opposite have reduced themselves, when it comes to tax, to this rule-in-rule-out game. What I would say is that our tax policies have not changed. They are to reduce taxes on taxpayers, and that's what I stick by.
