Senator WONG (South Australia—Minister for Foreign Affairs and Leader of the Government in the Senate) (15:05): I wish to add to an answer I gave to Senator Thorpe in question time today in relation to US nuclear-capable submarines and bombers. Australia continues to fully comply with our international obligations. The United States understands and respects our obligations regarding nuclear weapons. The United States does not station nuclear weapons in Australia. The stationing of nuclear weapons in Australia is prohibited by the South Pacific Nuclear Free Zone Treaty, known as the Treaty of Rarotonga, to which Australia remains committed.
