Senator DUNIAM (Tasmania—Assistant Minister for Forestry and Fisheries and Assistant Minister for Regional Tourism) (16:46): I seek leave to make a short statement. The PRESIDENT: Leave is granted for one minute. Senator DUNIAM: The government notes its utmost appreciation for the heroic efforts of emergency service personnel at this difficult time. The government has a targeted strategy to reduce the risk of natural disasters and build resilience in communities in the form of the Natural Disaster Risk Reduction Framework. The government is continuing to implement this framework. There are longstanding disaster recovery arrangements in place between the Commonwealth and the states to ensure an adequate response to disasters and to assist communities in recovery. The government will always stand with its communities affected by bushfires and natural disasters. It's disappointing that the Greens are using these tragic fires as an opportunity to try to score political points.
