Senator McKIM (Tasmania) (15:57): I move: That— (a) the Home Affairs Legislation Amendment (Miscellaneous Measures) Bill 2018 be called on at 6 pm on Wednesday, 5 December 2018, and have precedence over all government business until determined; (b) if, by 7.10 pm the bill has not been finally considered, the questions on all remaining stages shall be put without debate; and (c) paragraph (b) of this order shall operate as a limitation of debate under standing order 142. I seek leave to move an amendment to the motion. The PRESIDENT: Has the amendment been circulated, Senator McKim? Senator McKIM: I don't believe that it has, but it's a very simple amendment relating to just changing the date and time. Leave not granted. Senator McKIM: Pursuant to contingent notice, at the request of the Leader of the Australian Greens, I move: That so much of the standing orders be suspended as would prevent Senator McKim moving the amendment to the motion. The PRESIDENT: Pursuant to the temporary order adopted last week, I will put the procedural motion which would allow Senator McKim to amend the motion in his name. The question is that standing orders be suspended to allow Senator McKim to amend his motion on the Notice Paper.
