Senator SIEWERT (Western Australia—Australian Greens Whip) (16:00): I seek leave to make a short statement. The PRESIDENT: Leave is granted for one minute. Senator SIEWERT: It's very dangerous to say 'never ever'. To the government and to the opposition: we know the date will change. It's a question of when. And then you lot will claim it as your own, just like you have with marriage equality and just like you have with a banking royal commission. All of a sudden, it will be Labor's idea. We will bookmark this day. The date will change. It is a question of when. The Australian community are increasingly engaging with this debate. They know that this is a day of grieving for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The date will change so that everybody in this country can enjoy Australia and celebrate Australia, not on a day that harms and causes distress to a large proportion of Australian people. The PRESIDENT: The question is that notice of motion No. 652 be agreed to.
