Senator URQUHART (Tasmania—Opposition Whip in the Senate) (11:57): by leave—At the request of Senator Chisholm, I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, he will move: That the Senate— (a) notes the comments of Senator O'Sullivan to The Australian on 13 September 2017 that he "is considering making a statement to the Senate" in connection with his links to Newlands Civil Construction Pty Ltd, which has received contracts funded by the Commonwealth; (b) calls on Senator O'Sullivan to attend the Senate at 12.30 pm on 17 October 2017 so that, prior to government business being called on, any senator may ask for a statement to be made; and (c) resolves that: (i) in the event that Senator O'Sullivan makes a statement, any senator may, at the conclusion of the statement, move without notice—That the Senate take note of the statement, or (ii) in the event that Senator O'Sullivan does not make a statement, any senator may, without notice, move a motion with regard to Senator O'Sullivan's failure to make a statement, and (iii) any motion to take note under paragraphs (c) (i) or (ii) have precedence over all other government business until determined.
