Senator GALLAGHER (Australian Capital Territory—Manager of Opposition Business in the Senate) (15:58): I seek leave to make a short statement. The PRESIDENT: Leave is granted for one minute. Senator GALLAGHER: The opposition will be opposing this motion. The Senate Select Committee on a National Integrity Commission, which had been working on an inquiry when the last election was called, was re-established this year to inquire into and report on the establishment of a national integrity commission. The committee has held five days of public hearings and received 37 submissions, many quite substantial. The committee was due to report on Tuesday, 15 August, but the reporting date has since been extended to 13 September 2017 and it would be entirely inappropriate to ignore its work by pre-empting its findings and report.
