Senator McGRATH (Queensland—Assistant Minister to the Prime Minister) (15:48): I seek leave to make a short statement. The PRESIDENT: Leave is granted for one minute. Senator McGRATH: The coalition government fully supports World Refugee Day but cannot support this motion in its current form. It is disappointing that Labor would seek to politicise World Refugee Day in this way. It was this government that successfully delivered an additional intake of 12,000 Syrian and Iraqi refugees and the largest offshore humanitarian program in more than 30 years in 2015-16. The coalition government is increasing Australia's refugee intake in a compassionate and responsible way. The number of places available under the humanitarian program will rise to 18,750 in 2018-19.
