The PRESIDENT (10:06): I inform the Senate that I have received a letter from Senator Day resigning his place as a senator for the state of South Australia and I table that letter. After the resignation of Senator Day, I notified the Governor of South Australia of the vacancy in the representation of that state. I indicated I was not in a position to advise His Excellency that it was a vacancy to which section 15 of the Constitution applied and that I would need to put the matter before the Senate. I table a copy of my letter to the Governor of South Australia and his response.
